The City of Bergen:Bergen is the 2nd largest city in Norway, situated in the South-West of the country. The city has been designated a World Heritage Site and is an International Congress City with a reputation for hospitality. Bergen is a lively city, which integrates both the modern and the historic. The area has a long maritime history around which most of its culture has developed. Bryggen, the Bergen port plays host to the Statsraad Lehmkuhl, Norway's oldest square rigged sailing ship. Bergen is perhaps most famous for its role as “gateway to the Fjords”. From there a voyage to view the spectacular Northern Lights can be taken. The city offers a wide range of entertainment including many theatres and museums, a vibrant nightlife and breathtaking views of the Norwegian Fjords from the top of its two mountains. Bergen can also be used as a base from which the many other areas and cities of Norway can be visited. For example the famous Bergen railway travels to Oslo through the beautiful mountain scenery of the high plateau Hardangervidda. Picturesque landscapes and cosmopolitan cities, combined with the hospitality of the Norwegian people can be experienced easily from the city of Bergen.
